What is a Thermal Transfer Ribbon

TTR ribbon is a very essential component in thermal transfer printing. In this method, the hot print head creates the printed images by melting the ribbon material on the paper and the result comes out very quickly. TTR ribbons are durable for most barcodes. Without thermal ribbon, thermal printers will not be able to work.

Types of TTR Ribbon

  1. Wax
It is inexpensive and provides outstanding print quality. In Wax ribbon has a high level of wax substance and these are combined with chemical and solvency resistance. It is generally used for labeling, shipping label, tags, and label printing, etc.
  1. Wax-Resin Ribbon
It is a combination of wax and resin substance. In which Resin substance is a higher percentage, and it is providing quality of the result, and made of two more layers, Resin is harder than wax durability. It is used for glossy and smooth surface synthetic material, but it is quiet (expensive) than wax ribbon, and there is a chance of abrasion or scratch due to contract.
  1. Resin Ribbon:
It contains a higher amount of resin material. Printing with resin ribbon consumes a higher level of energy so, that resin has a higher level of melting point. Low level of printing speed due to higher level of melting speed. It is best used for textile garments and it is generally high glossy like polyester. Resin is the most expensive for the Thermal transfer ribbon.
